What Do I Wear?

With busy season in full swing I have been getting this question a lot -What should we wear? I thought I would put together a little post with all my best tips and suggestions that can be applied to any session.

Client Closet

I have started a client closet! It is a growing collection of items that best represent my style and photograph well.  I am stocking women’s dresses, maternity gowns, oversized sweaters and baby outfits for 12-18mo. If you would like to shop the closet and try anything I am happy to set up an appt to do so. Please contact me at least 1-2 weeks before your session to schedule an outfit consult.

Pinspiration

Follow me on Pinterest to get inspired for your session! I love long flowy dresses and skirts because it shows movement and can be tossed around and played with during your session. For men I suggest neutral colors (white, grey, taupe, beige, ivory, white or black). You also cannot go wrong with a chambray/denim button up with khaki or sage pants or black jeans. These colors match well with just about anything. I have tons of examples pinned on my JS Photography Outfit Inspiration board. Feel free to scroll through and check out the color schemes, patterns and styles I have selected. Get inspired here!

Side note: if you see a pin you like, click on it. Some pins have a price tag icon on the bottom corner that you can tap and then each item in the image will have a dot appear over it. You can tap that dot and shop the image for similar pieces!

Little Things

You want to look for pieces that do not have logos, writing or characters on them.

Mixing and matching patterns can be fun and add interest but keep it simple. Keep if mostly solids. Say mom is wearing a floral dress, dad and kids should be solids. If you have a group of 5 or more then you can mix in a few more simple patterns such as large stripes or plaid.

Layering is great! It adds texture and interest. Tights or leggings under a skirt or tunic, jackets, sweaters, button up shirts, kimonos…

Mix textures! denim, cotton, sweater, corduroy, lace, velvet, etc..

Have fun with accessories! Add a hat, jacket, jewelry.. make sure you are wearing clean, stylish shoes! Do not wear sneakers or bright colored shoes.

Getting hair and makeup done is always great, but if you are doing yourself make sure to keep it natural and *you* with maybe just a extra oomph so it stands out on camera.

Chapstick + lotion!

If you have painted nails, make sure they are not chipped.
